Bongekile Simelane, a South African choreographer and Gqom artist, began her career at 17 as a backup singer for the Kwaito group Big Nuz. It was during this time that she met her late husband Mampintsha, whom she married in 2021.

Continuing her career as a dancer and backup singer, Babes Wodumo gained recognition when she was featured by Mampintsha on his single “Amatsegetsege.” In 2016, she made her debut as a solo artist with the release of her single “Wololo,” which earned her a BET nomination.

Although she received multiple nominations at the Metro Awards, Babes Wodumo voiced her disappointment on social media, accusing the awards of favoring other artists. This led to her being suspended from the Metro Awards for five years. Throughout her career, she has faced various controversies.

In December 2022, Babes Wodumo suffered the loss of her husband Mampintsha, followed by the passing of her mother-in-law in January 2023. Despite facing challenges, including body-shaming after her pregnancy, her fans have consistently supported her.

Recently, it has been reported by Isolezwe that the Queen of Gqom is in critical condition and battling illness.
