Renowned for her chart-topping hit “Loliwe,” Zahara grappled with home loan defaults, placing her upmarket townhouse on the brink of loss.
Facing a looming auction date of May 7 last year, Zahara encountered a dire predicament with missed monthly installments totaling R17,665, prompting a six-day grace period to settle her R1.9 million home loan.
Enter the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who discreetly intervened to settle the outstanding debt, rescuing Zahara’s residence from the auctioneer’s clutches. Despite the EFF’s contribution of R100,000 to Zahara’s home loan account after her passing in December 2023, the singer’s home finds itself once again on the auction block.
Zahara’s journey with the Little Falls residence began in 2012 during a period of career zenith. Despite the cherished memories held within the home, financial struggles ensued due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact and challenges faced as an independent artist following her departure from TS Records.
With bookings becoming scarce and financial hardships persisting even after joining Warner Music, Zahara’s family, aware of her financial struggles, expressed hope for the preservation of the home.
Post-auction, the family confirmed the sale of the residence, lamenting the loss and emphasizing Zahara’s hard work and the sentimental value attached to the property. The disappointment echoed, as the hope for the house to serve as a lasting monument, housing memories of Zahara’s generosity and hospitality, gave way to its relinquishment.
