Uzalo actor Pastor Gwala dies
The popular character Pastor Gwala from the hit South African soapie Uzalo is set to meet his demise in April. The April teasers released by TVSA reveal that Nkunzi, played by Masoja Msiza, will be the first to discover Pastor Gwala’s lifeless body. The teaser for Wednesday 5 April states, “Nkunzi sees his dead son.”
The death of Pastor Gwala will occur just one month after his wife, Nosipho Gwala, kills their newborn baby Muzi, conceived with Mondli. In the March teasers, it is revealed that the couple will bury their son on Thursday 30 March, after which Nosipho will enter a state of shock.
The teasers also suggest that their son Nkazimulo’s behavior will be suspicious after Pastor Gwala’s death, although it remains unclear why he will die or who will kill him. The teaser for Monday 10 April states, “Nkazimulo’s behavior raises many eyebrows.”

It was announced in November 2022 that both Menzi Biyela, who plays Pastor Gwala, and Nompilo Maphumulo, who plays Nosipho Gwala, have exited the show. In a statement to Sowetan, Uzalo producer King David Mukwevho expressed his gratitude for working with the actors, stating, “We are incredibly honoured to have worked with such talents.”
Maphumulo has been with the show since its inception in 2015, and it is unclear how her character will be written out of the show.
Fans of Uzalo will undoubtedly be saddened by the news of Pastor Gwala’s death, as he was a beloved character on the show. However, the show’s producers have a reputation for delivering exciting storylines, and viewers can expect the unexpected.
