Uzalo actor conquers Comrades Marathon!
The actor, who shot to fame when he joined Uzalo as detective Nyawo, started participating in the marathon from 2018.
He has been portraying police officer Nyawo on the well-liked SABC 1 drama series Uzalo for five years.
Fans didn’t understand his position when he first appeared on the show.
However, after being named captain, he has received a little more attention, which the supporters adore.
Cebolenkosi Mthembu gained the moniker “Mr. Oxford Dictionary” after allowing spectators to be astounded by his enormous vocabulary.

I was the hilarious police when the show first debuted in 2015, he claims.
“I did this on purpose because the other police officers were already taking themselves too seriously,”
The actor admits to Drum that his role wasn’t well-known back then.
A police officer “was serious and strict in their minds.”
However, Cebolenkosi, an electrical technician by training, now captivates audiences with his flamboyant, high-pitched English.
He explains, “I am one of the actors that constantly supports other people’s stories.
The actor claims that in order to set himself apart from other characters, he prefers to speak in large, difficult English words rather than everyday English.
“But I make sure that every time I have to speak, even as someone who is supporting, I leave my imprint.
The majority of the words I use are in the script. But because they can be simplified, they are truly not necessary.
He tells Drum that he hopes that his followers and viewers will consider who he is as an entertainer as well as his words because he has so much more to contribute than just acting.
“There is a lot I can do as an actor,” I said. “Ngiyazi kuningi mina engingakwenza njengomlingisi.”
“I’m hoping the show will give me more chances to demonstrate that I’m a funny character.”
He has a wide range of skills.
He works as an electrical technician for Eskom, the nation’s power company, during the day while also portraying the witty captain on Uzalo at night.
How does he manage his acting career while working a regular day job?
“I am grateful to Uzalo for being able to accommodate my schedule. Ngiyabonga kakhulu kuZalo.
“I usually take pictures in the early morning or the late afternoon. I often take leave unless there is an emergency, he says.
Those aren’t even half of the things he does, as if he isn’t already very busy.
And he doesn’t appear to be slowing down.
He participates in the Clermont choir, runs the Comrades Marathon, and is a radio host for Imbokodo FM, a community radio station in Durban.
I enjoy singing, but we only sing for the radio on Saturdays, he chuckles.
This year, the marathon hosted about 70 countries. Mthembu said that getting to the finish line was hard.
“It was too hard for me this year but I managed to finish within 11 hours. Marathons are not for the fainthearted. I had so many stops this time compared to the other years. Perhaps, not having enough time to train was the reason,” he said
“This marathon is not easy. What I noticed is that most of the runners were struggling. It could happen that the
two- year gap is the reason most runners found it difficult to finish,” he said.
After Covid-19 hit Mzansi in 2020, the Comrades Marathon took a break. Mthembu said he stopped training hard for it because he did not know when it would be back.
“But I promise that next year, I will be fit and I will make sure that I finish a bit early,” he said.
Uzalo took to social media to congratulate the actor for finishing the race.
