Following their Tuesday automobile accident in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala sent his best wishes to Transport MEC Peggy Nkonyeni and her guardians.
According to reports, the event happened along the R66 when the car they were traveling in crashed because a tire broke.
When the tragedy occurred, the MEC was her route from her engagement with the premier and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to her next engagement in the Dannhauser Local Municipality, where she was supposed to introduce a program for young economic development.
The Department of Transportation anticipates hiring more than 4000 young people as a result of the program.
Among the first individuals on the scene of the tragedy were Zikalala and the directors-general for the Office of the Premier Nonhlanhla Mkhize. Since then, they have made sure that the MEC and her protectors have received the help they require, including immediate medical attention.
“MEC Nkonyeni was involved in an accident just after we had concluded a very fruitful engagement with His Majesty the King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, to get the Kings guidance on various pertinent matters in the province.
“MEC Nkonyeni is currently undergoing complete medical evaluation. She is fully conscious and alert with the premier and the director-general by her side at the hospital. On behalf of the people and government of KwaZulu-Natal, we wish MEC Nkonyeni and her protectors a speedy recovery,” said Premier Zikalala.
The people of KwaZulu-Natal have also been assured by Premier Zikalala that the MEC and her protectors are receiving the best medical care.
