Thami Mngqolo latest news
Thami Mngqolo, popularly known as Senzo Dhlomo from ‘Generations,’ has shared details about how the cast was let go from the soapie in 2014.
In a tell-all interview on The King David Studio podcast, Mngqolo disclosed that they were informed about the show’s rebranding, which included a new storyline and cast. The actors were surprised by this decision, but Mngqolo expressed confidence that the new version would never capture the same essence and legacy that the original cast had built.
During the interview, it was revealed that the actors had sought help from politicians, including then-president Jacob Zuma, but their efforts were in vain. Despite the setback, the cast members who were fired from Generations have gone on to become some of South Africa’s finest actors.
Mngqolo said: “We did not realise they could do that. You may try and pivot or rename Senzo but coming up with a whole new story? That didn’t scare us because you can try, but you will never have what you had with those and the legacy it had built up. You can try, but it will never have the same essence.”
Since his exit from the show, Mngqolo’s activities have sparked curiosity among fans. While he has not starred in any big-budget drama series on television, there are unconfirmed reports suggesting that he has been actively involved behind the scenes and has established himself as an event MC. Additionally, he has secured radio gigs in recent years.
The firing of the original cast of Generations in 2014 had an immediate impact, with 16 actors being axed and replaced by a new cast as the show underwent a rebranding process. This incident, often referred to as “the death of Generations,” left many South Africans wondering about the behind-the-scenes events that led to such drastic action.
