Government Printing Works: Accounting Clerk: Salaries and Payroll

Processing of Allowances and Deductions

  • Process allowances and deductions on the PERSAL system.

Salary Management

  • Process salary recalls, reversals, and freezing.

Payslip Distribution

  • Collect payslips and payroll at Bureau Beta, sort them according to pay-points, and distribute them accordingly.

Payroll Administration

  • Administer payroll reports to ensure accurate and timely information.

Tax Reconciliation and Payments

  • Assist with the monthly reconciliation, declaration, and payment of employee taxes to SARS.
  • Capture tax-related transactions on the PERSAL system.

IRP5 Distribution

  • Distribute employees’ IRP5s and issue duplicate IRP5s when needed.

Service Terminations and Transfers

  • Handle all service terminations and employee transfers to and from the department.

Last Pay Certificate Issuance

  • Issue Last Pay Certificates for employees.

Inter-Departmental Claims

  • Manage inter-departmental claims related to payroll.

Debt Management

  • Handle employees’ debt management.

Client Liaison

  • Liaise with clients within and outside the department to provide salary advice.


Educational Qualifications

  • Grade 12 with Accounting.
  • An appropriate recognized National Diploma in Accounting, Financial Accounting, or Public Finance will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Computer literacy, particularly in Excel.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective planning and organizing skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within a team.
  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations.
