LATEST: Here is Eskom’s Revised Load Shedding Schedule for the Weekend. See below

Eskom, the power utility company, has recently made changes to its load shedding plan for the upcoming weekend. The adjustments aim to minimize the impact on consumers while ensuring the stability of the power grid.

Until midnight on Friday, June 23, load shedding will be maintained at stage 3. However, there will be a temporary suspension of load shedding from midnight until 5:00 on Saturday morning.

On Saturday, load shedding will commence at stage 1 from 5:00 to 16:00. Following this, it will be escalated to stage 3 until midnight. This pattern will repeat on Sunday.

Monday’s schedule will see a suspension of load shedding from midnight to 16:00, followed by stage 3 load shedding in the evenings.

Below is the complete schedule:

Friday, June 23: Stage 3 load shedding until 00:00

Saturday, June 24: Load shedding suspended from 00:00 to 05:00 Stage 1 load shedding from 05:00 to 16:00 Stage 3 load shedding from 16:00 to 00:00

Sunday, June 25: Load shedding suspended from 00:00 to 05:00 Stage 1 load shedding from 05:00 to 16:00 Stage 3 load shedding from 16:00 to 00:00

Currently, breakdowns have reduced the generating capacity to 14,675MW, while the planned maintenance outages have slightly increased the capacity out of service to 3,908MW.

In the past 24 hours, Eskom has successfully restored generating units at Arnot, Kendal, and Kriel power stations. However, delays in bringing a generating unit at Grootvlei and two generating units at Hendrina power station back online have contributed to the existing capacity constraints.

Thanks to reduced planned outages, improved generation, and lower-than-expected demand, Eskom has managed to minimize high-stage load shedding for the past three weeks. However, despite these improvements, daily load shedding is still implemented, marking the country’s 205th day of outages since the current cycle began in September 2022.

Over the last 10 months, South Africans have only experienced three full days without load shedding, highlighting the persistent challenges in the power supply.

For residents in major metropolitan areas, load shedding schedules are available on the respective city websites, including Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Bay, eThekwini, Manguang, and Buffalo City. Additionally, Eskom has made other load shedding schedules accessible on loadshedding.eskom.co.za.

Smartphone users can also download the EskomSePush app to receive push notifications about load shedding implementation and the specific times their area will be affected.
