Dineo Ranaka fired

Dineo Ranaka, a well-known radio presenter, shocked many when she disclosed on Saturday that she had been fired from her position at Kaya FM. Contrary to reports of an amicable departure, Ranaka revealed that she was dismissed amid a battle with depression.

The former Metro FM presenter took to Instagram to express her surprise and stated that she did not regret leaving her previous job. Media personality Somizi Mhlongo offered advice, encouraging Ranaka not to burn bridges and assuring her that a greater chapter awaits her.

Ranaka had taken a leave of absence for over a month to address her mental health following a social media breakdown where she openly discussed her struggles with suicidal thoughts and anxiety. During her absence, Sizwe Dhlomo temporarily filled in for her on the breakfast show alongside her former co-host, Solomzi “Sol” Phenduka. Kaya FM released a statement expressing their support for Ranaka and her healing process.

It was reported that Ranaka checked herself out of a mental healthcare hospital in Pretoria after a brief stay. Subsequently, she traveled to New York for work, raising concerns about her sick leave. Ranaka’s focus moving forward will be on her podcast, OpenIDwithDineo, which she launched in April.

Further details or comments from Ranaka were not available. If you or someone you know is battling depression and needs assistance, please contact the South African Depression and Anxiety Group for support.
